Sometimes I feel inspired to raid my archives for pictures from a while ago that I didn't post here at the time. This was from the summer - I was slightly baffled to see a European flag in the corner of this stars-and-stripes cake on sale on the day before Labor Day last year.It turns out, of course, that this flag has thirteen stars, not twelve (silly me) and is the "Betty Ross" flag - one of the oldest designs of the US flag rather than a symbol of a new transatlantic super-state.
