Day 5.173: Lots of rock, not much water

We spent a lot of the day hanging around at home due to the heat (and other factors). In the late afternoon we managed to get out and headed up to the Indian Ladder Trail in Thacher State Park where we hoped the altitude, shade and the low sun would make being outside bearable - and they did.

As we remarked along the way, it's best not to think about the rocks above your head and the fallen ones around you while you're still on the trail.

Unless of course, it is to enjoy them for their own sake:

One of the two main waterfalls was completely dry and the other had almost nothing going over it. Surprisingly, a minor one to the side of the eastern waterfall was flowing as much as last time we went after heavy rain - just enough to get you wet at the foot of the stairs. There was also water flowing out from underneath the cliffs and a small foot-level cave with a cool wind blowing out of it to cool our ankles as we walked past.

All in all, a very nice - and very welcome trip out!
