It certainly beats feeling sad about it!
I'd never consciously heard the phrase, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" before I came to the US. Maybe it never caught on in the UK because 'lemonade' means a barely lemon-flavoured drink like Sprite rather than something you could make with any lemons that life should have inexplicably gifted you with.
