Day 3.299: Rock Band 3

We had a a good crowd for Rock Band Night today - swelled by it being a farewell evening for one of the group and by the arrival of Rock Band 3.

I think everyone had a good time.

Day 3.298: Please Do No+

It's been a bit of a quiet week. Busy at work. No need to rush home for incidents with the car. A bit of Rock Band 3 in the evenings.  I won't pretend it's not quite welcome after last week, but it doesn't make for exciting reading I'm afraid.

Mind you, the header on the blog does promise you the 'mundane days' too - so, if all you get is a slightly amusing sign from a restaurant rest-room, you'll have to make do with that until tomorrow!

Day 3.297: Erosion rocks!

The sign on the fence above this stream bank says 'Prevent erosion: Stay on trail' - more like 'Avoid becoming a victim of erosion...' - well, maybe I need to work on my slogans a bit but I think that it would take a lot of off-trail hikers to do this kind of erosion damage to the area.

We'd never been down to this bit of beach on the Vlomankill trail before Saturday - but the view of the trees clinging on to the cliff-like bank and the crazy wavy rock formations were a pretty cool sight. And in future, I think I'll stay well back behind that fence!

Day 3.296: Nature's plant pot

Another photo from our Saturday morning walk by Vloman Kill. We spotted this tiny plant growing in a natural plant-pot formed inside a damaged tree. I wonder if it has any chance of growing into a big plant in this location. Being pioneering is not always a recipe for easy success I suppose.

Today is election day here and our chance to make 'taxation without representation' jokes.  It was also a day off school for the girls (although E5N1 went to his preschool) and they both had play-dates.  Exile #3 going to her "recess-friend's" house to be bothered by her younger sister and little brother and Exile #4 having a classmate over here this afternoon.  It sounds like it all went well.

In other news, the car is now being repaired - apparently it will cost approximately $10,000 and take a couple of weeks to complete.  Life (like the label list for this post) seems quite full.

Day 3.295: Killing (joke!)

Before a crazy night came a pleasant evening, before the pleasant evening came a happy afternoon, before the happy afternoon came a crafty lunchtime and before that it was Saturday morning and we walked the Vlomankill (or possibly Vloman Kill or even, on one sign, Vlomanskill) trail at Five Rivers.

I love the woods at this time of year - the mostly bare trees give views that are absent in the spring and summer, there's always plenty to see and the walking is easier than in the winter.  Talking of which, as you can tell from the kids' clothing it's starting to be winter-coat weather and we may well have snow this week.

No question today but it is a bonus pop pun for title watchers - not just walking at the Kill, but also some 80's pop.
