Day 5.147: Weekend part 2 - Beach!

I know the weekend is starting to feel far away (in time), but here is part two of the recap (here is part 1)!

Our first choice on waking to another rainy morning was to go to the Shelburne Museum.  However, it's not open on Sunday mornings, so instead we went to a nearby park.

We didn't regret it for a moment, and before long the sun came out and we saw:

standing stones surrounding a sundial (the kind where you are the gnomon), a tree-house and...the lake.

Eventually we made our way to the beach, where I took these pictures - none of which contains Champ (the Lake Champlain monster):

The beach was a hit with the kids (and the rest of us were quite content to watch them enjoying themselves (and writing about it):

And then we had lunch and drove home.  A perfect end to a very nice weekend away.

Now...about that mystery Capital Region object - any takers?

Day 5.146: Weekend Part 1 - ECHO

Saturday in Burlington was a bit rainy and cool, but that didn't stop us having fun.

Most of our day was spent at the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center.

But first there was the broody standing around looking across Lake Champlain towards New York and reading about glorious victories over the British while we waited for it to open.

Once inside, we learned a lot about the lake.  Its current occupants:

And its history:

(we also got roared at)

At lunch time we went to American Flatbread, where we managed to order pizzas with no cheese, no sauce and no gluten to please all in attendance.  Great to see locally sourced ingredients and a real brick oven in use:

We also had probably the nicest server ever.

It also gave us an excuse to walk up to the farmers market - where this happened.  Then we returned to ECHO until we could no longer keep going.

Day 5.145: Lake view

We spent a very nice morning beside Lake Champlain today and then spent the afternoon driving home.

I'm much too tired to do any justice to either the photos or a description of the day, so instead here are a couple of views of the lake from early this morning when I went out for a run.

Our hotel, in common with many in the area, did not have a lake view. One that I noticed as we were driving home had struggled to find something that you could see from your room, "Skyview Motel" sounds fine, but isn't really saying very much!

Day 5.144: Bug-lick-town Vermont

We had a very nice day in Burlington today despite the rain.

One of the highlights for E5N1 was first eating this lollipop with a real cricket inside it and then telling everyone who'd listen as we walked around the farmer's market. I'd offer him as a marketing tool if we lived a little closer!

Yummy!

Day 5.143: Something from the Capital Region

We're on the road in Vermont. We stopped for dinner at a recommended place in Fair Haven, just across the state line. In fact, the place - The Wagon Inn - turned out to be in the tiny but delightful village of Benson.

The little village green outside the inn had a board with the village newsletter on display and another object which came from near home: West Troy NY which is now Watervliet.

So, to keep you occupied while we start our weekend away, I'll set it as a mystery picture challenge. Get guessing and I'll "see" you tomorrow.
