OK - these were the breakfast cereals on our table yesterday morning after the girls had gone to school. I was curious to see what was in them. This is what I found:
- Five proclaim themselves 'organic'.
- Only one contains 'high-fructose corn syrup'.
- One has 3, two have 4, two have 6 and one has 12 (or more) ingredients listed.
- The most calorific has 180 calories per serving, the least has 90.
- The saltiest contains 9% of the recommended daily intake of sodium in a serving, the least salty 0%.
All in all, I was fairly pleasantly surprised by the results of this little survey. Now, can you hazard a guess at the best and the worst - answers please in the comments (and no cheating)!
hmmm, I think the best is bottom left and the worst is top left?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your entry - I'll give it a few days before revealing the answers - Exile #2 had a go and failed to get it all right despite being the one who bought them!
ReplyDeleteI'm with John, the best is bottom left (or maybe middle left, or middle right - spot the indecisive person) and the worst is the cheerios in the top left. It always amuses me that cheerios claim to be 'organic' and 'containing 5 whole grains' in the UK, and yet when we were in the US 20 years ago they were vilified as the worst possible thing to feed your kids. Of course, they are one of J's favorites.

Well, it depends on your criteria I suppose, but if those are rice krispies bottom right, they're pretty bad on most counts. Middle left are probably the "best", but not if you're trying to avoid gluten, then you'd have to go for top right, which is gluten-free and also organic - but pretty sweet. Middle right are probably quite salty...
ReplyDeleteBetter just pick out the "serving suggestion" fruit and eat that!
