Day 4.299: About the glasses

At this time of year, with the sun low in the sky for much of the day, I really like to have a pair of sunglasses to hand whenever I'm driving. For this reason, I keep a pair in each car. Except that if one of them gets mislaid, I move the glasses from one car to the other meaning that I sometimes don't have any when I need them. Occasionally, I'll foresee this and take the one pair into the house so I can take them in whichever car I travel in and this sometimes leads to the situation where I don't have a pair in either car.

So it was this morning.

"There's a pair in the door-pocket," offered Exile #2. And there was, and it was good.

Well, I thought so...everyone else seemed less sure.

 

 This was all so that we could have a rather nice day out, but I haven't time to do it justice today, so it will just have to wait.

Day 4.298: Fall again

This was taken last weekend, just before the snow started.

After that brush with winter, this weekend looks set to be beautifully autumnal.

Now, we just have to decide what to do with it!

Day 4.297: Cars and computers

E5N1 is suddenly very keen on colouring.  So much so, that he has even had the inclination and patience to tackle a few of these huge colouring sheets and do a pretty careful job.  He's very particular about the colours he chooses although he doesn't seem worried about trying to be authentic with them.  This is a new thing - adding to his junk-modelling and other creative endeavours.

I remember, as a child - probably a little older than he is - always wanting to be creating things.  Making models, or designing board games, or whatever.  I was sometimes happy to be doing things on my own as long as other people were around, but would often try and get someone else to join in with my activity.  I see evidence of that in him too.  I spent a large chunk of the day today pair-programming a state-machine with a colleague - creating something from nothing with someone else.  I suppose I haven't really changed that much!

Day 4.296: Funny, energetic, ...predictable

This self-portrait-with-words is Exile #4's description of herself. I don't know to what extent Exile #3 would agree with these particular adjectives, but she certainly knows her sister well.

Yesterday I came down to breakfast with news that our recent visitors had got engaged the previous evening. Exile #2, E5N1 and Exile #3 were all suitably excited. Then Exile #3 said, "When [Exile #4] hears that she'll probably say, 'I thought they were already married!'" We all agreed that it was just the sort of thing she would say. When Exile #4 arrived in the kitchen a few moments later, I passed on the news to her.

"Really?! I thought they were married!" she exclaimed, and then was very bemused about why we found it quite as funny as we did.

Day 4.295: What they did in the snow

The snow has almost all gone now, but I remembered I had these pictures from Exile #4 and E5N1's time out in the snow on Sunday.  Exile #3 was in denial about it snowing in October.  She was also mostly in her room reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Anyway, a miniature snowman, a "snow-pile" and a first sledding session.  Not bad for the last week in October - winter, here we come!
