Day 1.238: By George!
We set off up the Adirondack Northway after picking up Exile #3 from school. We made it into the six million acre park - but only just - before stopping for the evening.
Two of our previous visits here have been well out of season (one when the lake was largely frozen-over) - at these times the town is completely deserted - all empty parking lots and closed businesses. Our other visit was in August when it was packed. Maybe, we thought, there is a happy medium the weekend after Labor Day. Well, maybe - except that we coincided with the Adirondack Nationals event - lots of old, souped-up cars parading up and down the main street.
It certainly added some colour to the evening! We had a very nice meal by the lake and then another brief time at the beach, before returning. We found a back road for the walk back to the hotel. The sheriff's men had kindly closed it for us.
