Day 4.112: Spring in Columbia County

With the sun shining, spring springing and a little energy after our busy week/weekend, we discovered another hidden gem on Sunday morning.

About 35 minutes from Albany in Columbia County, near the town of Old Chatham, NY, is the Wilson M. Powell Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is owned by the Alan Devoe Bird Club and protected by the Columbia County Land Conservancy, but whether or not birding - or any kind of wildlfe watching - is your thing there is plenty to like here.

Here are some things we saw on our 2.5 mile circular hike.

Animals (the water shot contains a beaver or muskrat - hard to tell at that distance!):

Plants springing into life:

Views (large and small):

And a lot of appealing trails:

There is a trail map here.  We took the white trail to Dorson's Rock and then returned via the red and orange trails.

The photos can be seen here.
