Day 172: Family outing

We all went for a walk this evening. Well, Exile #2 and I walked, Exile #3 mostly scooted (or is it scootered?) and Exile #4 and E5N1 mostly trundled in the wagon. I wanted to punningly call the post "An American classic and two bits of British tat" but I couldn't think of a way to make a Barbie scooter into 'two bits'. Actually by the end of the trip it was one piece of tat (the Barbie sign off the front) and a perfectly acceptable scooter, but that doesn't really work either.

The wagon really is an American classic though - these red steel wagons have been made by the same company for more than 70 years (except for a break during WWII). In view of the convergence of our cultures, I'm amazed that the streets of suburbia in the UK are not teeming with people pulling their children to school/nursery/playgroup in these things - they would be the ideal fit for those small journeys on housing estate pavements (sidewalks) with the added benefit of acting as a go-cart when the parents are busy with other things. I suppose it's possible that one would just seem huge back in the UK and where would you store it? OK, maybe it's a big country's vehicle after all.

We're all quite tired today after yesterday's festivities, and the thought of all the things that need to be done between now and Friday is quite scary. We'll get though it though and hopefully have some energy left for enjoying Exile #2's birthday on Saturday. Happy Birthday, your present is a chaotic, under-furnished house full of cardboard boxes to unpack!

  1. Maybe you could start your own business importing the wagons!
