Day 1.267: Woods, wood, wouldn't

This morning we took our guests up to Thacher Park, where we'd heard some good Fall foliage could be seen with minimum travel requirement. We'd heard correctly - although I managed to get almost entirely green trees in this picture. As well as looking over the overlook, we went for a very picturesque walk in the woods.

This afternoon, in response to the very cool weather and in order to fight off the post-lunch snooze, I decided to get the house ready for heating. This involved opening some vents, reconstructing the humidifier and chopping some firewood. C actually did most of the axe-wielding (kindly putting his success down to his height).

This evening we had Japanese take-away and as a result left it a bit late to light a fire - in the end my attempts to rush it into a worthwhile blaze failed completely and we were left with some barely warm logs sitting on the grate. You can't win them all.
