Day 3.266: Rivers expectations

It was a perfect fall day today - dry, cool, breezy and sunny.  Exile #3 had a play-date this afternoon and so the rest of us went to investigate the beaver pond at Five Rivers.  As expected, the heavy rain that caused the falls to be so impressive on Friday and yesterday had also had an effect on the water levels here.

What was less expected was that the water level had dropped.

The reason was that the dam that I previously reported on has been breached - presumably overwhelmed by the fast flowing flood water of the last few days and so the pond has reverted to its previous man-made level.  Here is the dam on the weir:

Here is the breach:

And here is the evidence of the water-level drop - visible all around the lake (6-8 inches I would say):

Of course, the fact that this margin was visible all around the lake makes it even less explicable why I only got such a lousy photo of it.
