While I was in Germany, Exile #2 managed to arrange for the driveway replacement work - that we had already agreed on - to be done. The first I knew of it was being directed to park across the road by Exile #2 when I got home from the airport.
On Saturday we (finally) let the girls try it out (and moved the cars back home). They were quite pleased with the results and continued to be this morning as we waited for the bus. There is a downside however, on Saturday as I was mowing the front lawn, Exile #3 climbed off the tricycle and then failed to stop it as it rolled down the gently-sloping and now easy-rolling drive and into the road - she chased after it, but - importantly - not into the road, and the trike survived unscathed too. Now they have agreed to leave the bikes and scooters in the garage or on the grass.
Today was very hot and Exile #2 took the kids to the outdoor pool for the first time after tea. Tomorrow is due to be even hotter - 98°F ?! - but anyone's swimming activities are likely to be disrupted by some thunderstorms. At least they should clear the air by the end of the day and leave us with more manageable temperatures (low 80s) for the next few days.
