This evening we brought the newly-refinished kitchen table in from the workshop (soon to be reclaimed as a garage) so our kitchen is complete again.
It was a long project. A little over a month of not having a kitchen at all with a week or so at either end of partial usability. We did most of it ourselves - the exceptions being the three contractor jobs: hardwood floor patching and refinishing (very nice work), plumbing (timely, careful, neat and thorough) and the electrical work (trouble from beginning to end but worked out OK) and a very valuable afternoon of help from John with some of the cabinets.
It's not really the way kitchens are done here (as our electrician was keen to point out at every turn), but it is the way we planned it and we now have more space and a much more ergonomic arrangement and something that is much more in keeping with our sense of style (strange and European though it may be!)
I spy much IKEA. (European, indeed!)
ReplyDeleteYes - it is IKEA - cause of much love-it/hate-it opinion. In our case however, it has been our ambition for a long time to have this style of free-standing kitchen and there are not many options - especially in the US. Maybe I'll write more about it some time.
